Is it Husker Football time yet?

Hey, isn't it about time for the Huskers to kick off?  It has been TOO long since we saw the Huskers take the field.  I'm stoked for this game against Southern Miss.  We will be warming up at the Single Barrel in Lincoln with the Sidetrack Band.  Stop by and have a beer with us if you're in Lincoln this weekend.  Then, come on by the cabin on Sunday for my birthday party.  We'll have cake, plus UV cake, a bounce house and a sno cone machine!  Plus we'll have some fun stuff too!

Proud to be a Husker!

The horrible events that have transpired for so many years at Penn State have touched the lives of people all around the country.  There are a lot of opinions about what could have and should have been done to stop the evil that occurred because of Sandusky.  My opinion is that if you are of sound integrity you will do the right thing no matter what it costs you.  Some coaches, teachers, administrators and who knows who else put their own careers ahead of the safety and well being of helpless young boys and that is what is so disturbing about this whole ordeal. Some people want to take God out of the schools, the currency, out of our songs and out of our lives.  Is that really what the world needs right now?  "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing".
Since Nebraska was next on Penn State's football schedule, we were drawn into the scandal and the massive media coverage.  What happened next is why I am proud to be a Husker Freak. You may think that I'm just a fan of a college team, but why I am really a Husker Freak is because of what we stand for and how we display it.  The integrity of Ron Brown and Tom Osborne as well as the way that the Husker team and fans handled the struggles in Happy Valley are the heart of why we can all be proud to be Huskers.
Below are some examples of what people are saying about the Huskers after our visit to Happy Valley last week.  This first message is from my Friend Todd.  He says it better than I can.

"All week before the game, I said that I didn't want Nebraska to be in that game. Anybody else, but not us. I thought it was a no-win situation literally and figuratively. After the pregame prayer and some time to reflect on what occurred, I'll admit that I was completely wrong. Nebraska was the right team, the only team, to be on that field with Penn State. The single biggest reason I am a Husker fan is because of men like Ron Brown, Tom Osborne and BrookBerringer...for who they were and what they stood for. Reflecting back on the pregame, Ron Brown was there for a reason and was the best person to stand in the middle of that circle. Never have I been more proud to be a fan of Nebraska.
Go Big Red!!!"

* This article written by Tom Shatel after the game, really speaks to the integrity of Ron Brown and what it means to be a Husker.
* And some of the best testimonies came from the people of Penn State.  This article is something we can all be proud of.

How do we beat CU and the skewed refs?

Taylor Martinez is hurt again and will most likely be ineffective this week against CU. For some reason Cody Green isn't improving and continues to make me cover my eyes everytime he gets the ball. Zac is apparently hurt too badly to play. So, how do we beat CU and the cheating referees?

This is my biggest fear. How can we win Friday when we can't play offense and the other team has an unfair "ref" advantage? If we could move the ball and score we could take the refs out of the picture. But since we can't and our defense is keeping it close, the refs (or maybe we should call them scamps), can completely change the outcome of this game.

In my opinion we need to accomplish 2 major things on Friday.
1. Play a completely clean and penalty free game. I think this is probably impossible but we need to make sure we don't give the refs any extra reasons to toss the flag. If CU is smart they will practice provoking activities to get us into more trouble.
2. Figure out an offensive scheme that we can make work without TMart. We need to get points even if they are just field goals. There has to be something we can do to move the ball on CU.

Neither of these are easy but in my opinion they are key to winning on Friday.

We beat ourselves

That loss was a heartbreaker. I think just about anyone could have beaten us last night. Even though we talked about this just being another game it was obvious that it wasn't. We've been so mad about the Texas loss last year that it consumed us. I know I wanted this win more than any other single game this year. Well its obvious that our obsession with the Big 12 game last year cost us this game this year.

We couldn't do anything right. Henery was awesome as usual, but we couldn't catch or hold on to the ball to save our life (and reputation), yesterday. Zac did a great job coming in off the bench and moving us downfield. But he can't throw the ball and then go catch it too. We have no one to blame but ourselves for this one. Were there questionable calls (and non calls)? You bet there were, but if we had taken of business it wouldn't have mattered. The bad news is Texas owns us with a 1 - 8 record and we still haven't beaten them in Lincoln since 1933.

The good news is, we don't have to play them anymore. I just wish if we were going to lose, it would have been to a better team, instead of due to us beating ourselves.

Hello,

Hello,

You have been targeted to help sponsor my weak attempt to grow a mustache to help kids!  My stache will most likely be weak but your donation does not need to be.  The concept is pretty simple, we get pledges/donations to grow a mustache for one month. All the money raised during this fundraiser is donated to the Nebraska Children's Home Society, a local charity that provides no cost adoption, foster care, parenting support, and childcare for families in Nebraska.   My goal of course is to make it to the Tom Selleck level (At the very least I need to do better than Nate and Troy).  J

Please go here to donate: http://foundation.nchs.org/supportnch/donatenow/donateonline/index.asp

Be sure to fill in this box:

There are a few others here that are participating so feel free to use their name if you’d like.

Nate Ryan, Jamie Wallingford, Thomas Kirk, Troy Carlsen, Ken Johnson and probably a few more…

By the way, my mustache's name is Bruce!

Thank You!!

So long Blockbuster

You are digging your own grave.

Late fees are back but now they are called daily rental fees! The kids movies went from $1 to $4! I sure miss Hollywood Video. Say goodbye Blockbuster, you will soon go the way of the Betamax video!!  It used to be nice to stop in and grab a movie for us and a couple for the kids, but now we might as well just buy them at NFM or Best Buy instead of paying to rent them.

With places like Netflix and Redbox not to mention Hulu and the many torrent sites, raising your prices and bringing back late fees is a grave mistake Blockbuster!!
